Navigating Melbourne’s morning traffic is often an exercise in patience, with drivers vying for the quickest route through the congestion.

As vehicle registrations in Victoria continue to outpace population growth, the frequency of accidents and breakdowns is also on the rise, making reliable roadside assistance more crucial than ever.

Milo Atanasov, Director of Melbourne’s Allcar Towing Group, is expanding his team by recruiting tow truck drivers who possess both the experience and calm needed to navigate these stressful situations.

"Accidents and breakdowns are unfortunate, but we're here to make the process a little easier and help clear the road," said Milo.

“Our staff work around the clock in shifts, ensuring that a driver is always available, no matter the time of day or the situation.”

"Experienced drivers are the backbone of our operation. Not only do they handle roadside incidents, but they also pass on their knowledge to the next generation of drivers."

The period from 6 am to 10 am sees the highest volume of calls for Allcar Towing, but Melbourne’s roads remain congested beyond that window, keeping the team busy throughout the day, every day of the year.

Expanding the Fleet for Growth

With traffic numbers on the rise, Milo has invested in an impressive fleet of 40 Isuzu F Series trucks, each an FRD 110-260 Auto tilt-slide tray model, chosen for their durability and versatility.

Milo’s decision to exclusively upgrade to Isuzu trucks is rooted in his long history with the company, having started as a yard hand under previous owner John Ficarra in the early 2000s. He worked his way up through the ranks before purchasing the business outright in 2011.

The fleet, which is regularly updated with new models, spans across five locations: the head office in Dandenong and additional sites in Berwick, Somerville, Keysborough, and Springvale.

While the majority of Allcar Towing’s business involves accidents and breakdowns, the fleet is also utilised for a variety of other services, including delivering vehicles to car dealerships, towing luxury cars, transporting boats, and even hauling heavy machinery or shipping containers.

With a GVM of 11,000 kg and a GCM of 20,000 kg, the FRD 110-260 trucks can handle up to 4.5 tonnes, making them more than capable of meeting Allcar Towing’s diverse demands.

Ideal Fit for Allcar Towing

The FRD 110-260 Auto is equipped with a robust Isuzu 6HK1-TCC six-cylinder engine, offering 191 kW of power at 2,400 rpm and 761 Nm of torque between 1,450 rpm and 2,400 rpm. This engine provides plenty of muscle for towing tasks.

The seven-metre-long tilt-slide tray, built by Australian Trailer Manufacturers (ATM), is designed for ease of use, allowing the deck to lower flush to the ground for easier loading and unloading of vehicles.

"All our trucks are identical to ensure our drivers have a consistent experience," Milo explained.

“The FRD 110-260 is the ideal size for us, offering the power and flexibility we need to serve our customers during some of their most stressful times. Whether it’s handling accidents or performing other services, our trucks are ready for it all.”

Prioritising Safety and Compliance

The Isuzu FRD 110-260 comes equipped with a 6-speed Allison LCT 2500 fully automatic transmission, reducing driver distractions and minimising clutch wear. This feature plays a key role in improving driver safety, reducing fatigue, and ensuring compliance with National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) and Chain of Responsibility (CoR) regulations.

“We make sure we stay up to date with NHVR compliance because it’s essential for business operations," said Milo. “By choosing brand-new Isuzu trucks, we’re investing in reliability and consistency for both our drivers and our customers.”

Commitment to Service Excellence

Milo is also deeply committed to maintaining the fleet’s safety standards by ensuring routine servicing is always up to date.

Allcar Towing relies on Patterson Cheney Trucks in Melbourne’s southeast for servicing, with Fleet Coordinator Nick Makalongo and Service Manager Wayne Murphy ensuring that downtime is kept to a minimum.

Towing is tough on equipment, but Patterson Cheney understands the unique needs of Allcar Towing, ensuring trucks are serviced quickly and efficiently to keep operations running smoothly.

“Our relationship with Patterson Cheney and Fleet Sales Consultant Brooke Griffin has only grown stronger,” Milo said.

"As we expand and take on new towing businesses, they’ve been instrumental in supporting our growth, including helping us launch new car carriers built on Isuzu cab chassis.”

"Their customer service is exceptional, and we truly appreciate their ongoing support."
