On Track & On Time with Allworks and Isuzu
There aren’t many things that “wait for no man” in today’s world. Even a global pandemic couldn’t bring our transport systems to a standstill.
From rail to road and into the skies, moving people, goods, and services from point A to point B is vital for the smooth operation of any modern society.
But like anything else, transport infrastructure can break down from time to time and needs constant upkeep to ensure a safe and reliable service.
With over 36,000 kilometres of track and more than 445 billion tonne-kilometres moved across the country last year, Australia's extensive rail network is a transport powerhouse that demands the ongoing attention of a dedicated workforce, equipped with specialised gear.
Enter Allworks WA, a leading provider of dry and wet hire equipment and skilled personnel for the civil and rail industries. Allworks offers a broad range of hire equipment, giving clients flexible and cost-effective access to top-quality transport solutions and machinery.
An Australian family-owned business operating since 1999, Allworks began in Western Australia but now operates nationwide with hubs in Perth and strategically located across New South Wales, Queensland, and Victoria.
With decades of experience in rail and civil works, the team at Allworks includes industry veterans like General Manager Nick McLoughney, who oversees the company’s equipment lockers.
On the transport side, Allworks boasts over 40 Isuzu trucks in its fleet, including more than a dozen water-carting trucks, 15 crew cabs in both F Series and N Series models, five FVZ and FXZ 240-350 tipper trucks, half a dozen service trucks, and more.
“We offer everything from small tray tops to water trucks, tippers, and Hiab crane trucks,” Nick explained.
“We also have crew trucks fitted with toolboxes and other accessories, which are incredibly popular due to their versatility."
“We either dry hire the trucks to our customers, or if we’re hiring out other machines, we might put an operator in one of the service trucks or a driver in a water cart. It’s a real mix,” he said.
“We purchase our trucks from Major Motors Isuzu in Perth, and the team there are fantastic.”
Nick says the company also works with local experts Welding Solutions in Bibra Lake to supply water trucks that can handle the heavy-duty tasks, along with a rotating roster of drivers.
“Welding Solutions and Major Motors really look after us, both of them,” Nick said.
“Some of our dry-hire trucks might have three or four different drivers in them per day, and they take a bit of a beating, so having a truck that we can rely on is vital—for both us and our customers.”
The FVZ 240-300 is ideal for water carting. Its powerful 300 PS (221 kW) engine delivers 981 Nm of torque @ 1,450 rpm, mounted on a 6x4 platform with an impressive 24,000kg GVM.
Also available in 6x4 configuration with a 24,000 kg GVM is the FXZ 240-350, which Allworks outfits in a durable tipper form.
The FXZ features Isuzu’s powerful 350 PS (257 kW) 9.8-litre, 6-cylinder engine with a massive 1,422 Nm of torque @ 1,400 rpm. With inter-axle lock and cross-locks on both axles, it’s built for maximum control and durability, even in the toughest conditions.
Safety is a top priority, and Isuzu delivers extensive safety features on F and FX Series trucks. Depending on the model, these trucks are equipped with ABS brakes, Electronic Stability Control, driver SRS seatbelt pre-tensioners and airbags, low-light reversing cameras, ECE-R29-compliant cabs, and more.
Additionally, Allworks’ 4x2 N Series and 4x2 FRR/FRD crew cabs are fitted with Isuzu’s intelligent Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), featuring emergency braking, lane departure warning, and forward collision warning—especially beneficial for service crews operating in urban environments.
While safety is a major focus, Nick says the real draw for Allworks is the reliability of Isuzu trucks.
“Over two-thirds of our fleet work in remote areas, so reliability is crucial,” Nick said.
“Our clients could be 300 or 400 kilometres away from the nearest service centre and a thousand kilometres from our head office. We mainly handle servicing ourselves, but if a truck’s out in a remote area, we might use a dealer for servicing, which is why having a wide network of dealers and service centres like Isuzu is invaluable.”
Isuzu’s expansive dealer network and reputation for delivering reliable, fit-for-purpose trucks play a key role in supporting Allworks’ need for consistent, low-stress servicing.
With time-sensitive projects, such as rail shutdowns, where 20 or 30 crew members are tasked with a four-hour job, reliable equipment is essential.
“There might be a few days of prep work, but then we only have three or four hours to remove old rail and replace it before the next train comes through,” Nick explained.
“Getting water, fuel, or personnel to and from those locations on time is absolutely critical.”
Thanks to Isuzu Australia and Major Motors, Allworks is able to deliver on its company vision of being ‘On Track, On Time.’
