LEAD IN:
Brisbane, QLD – Russell Transport, a pillar of Queensland's logistics sector, is proud to announce it is approaching its 100th year of operation as a family-owned business. This impressive milestone places Russell Transport among an exclusive group of Australian family-run enterprises that have stood the test of time.

BODY:
In the past century, much has evolved, but one constant has been the exceptional service offered by Russell Transport. Established in 1925 by Roy Bayley Russell, the company initially provided transport services for motor spirit to Dalgety & Co Ltd, Queensland agents for the Commonwealth Oil Refinery (COR) in Brisbane. From these modest beginnings, Russell Transport has grown into a prominent name in the logistics industry, adapting to new challenges while staying true to its family values and commitment to outstanding customer service.

"Reaching our 100th year reflects the hard work and vision of three generations of the Russell family, as well as the dedication of our staff and the ongoing loyalty of our customers," said Ken Russell, Director of Russell Transport. "We’re thrilled to mark this milestone and to continue building on our legacy of excellence in transport and logistics."

Over the decades, Russell Transport has been shaped by the efforts of key family members:

  • Roy and Beryl Russell laid the foundation, with Beryl continuing to contribute significantly to the business even after Roy’s retirement.
  • Their son Phil Russell took the reins in 1970, overseeing the company’s expansion and modernisation.
  • The third generation – Julie, Ken, and Michael Russell – joined the business in the 1990s and 2000s, driving further innovation and growth.

To celebrate this major achievement, Russell Transport will host or participate in a range of events throughout the year, including a special gala dinner in June. These events will honour the company’s rich history and look forward to its continued success in an ever-changing industry.

Russell Transport now joins a select group of Australian family-owned businesses that have celebrated similar longevity, such as:

  • Hutchinson Builders (Hutchies): Founded in 1912, marking over 110 years in construction.
  • Albert Smith Signs: Established in 1873 in Queensland, celebrating more than 150 years in signage.
  • Coopers Brewery: Founded in 1862, Australia's largest family-owned brewery.

These companies showcase the resilience and adaptability required to thrive across generations—qualities that Russell Transport embodies as it enters its centennial year.

"As Russell Transport enters its 100th year, we remain deeply committed to the founding principles of reliability, innovation, and family values," said Mr Russell. "This milestone not only celebrates the company's past successes but also marks an exciting new chapter in our enduring legacy."
