Volvo Group Australia Introduces HVO 100 First Fill at Wacol QLD Facility

On November 30, 2024, Volvo Group Australia (VGA) announced a major step towards sustainability by using HVO 100 as the first fill fuel for all Volvo and Mack trucks built at its Wacol QLD factory, starting December 2024.

HVO 100 Fuel for Volvo and Mack Trucks
This shift to Hydro Treated Vegetable Oil (HVO) is part of VGA's efforts to meet its 2030 emissions reduction targets. HVO is a renewable fuel that reduces well-to-wheel emissions by up to 90%, offering a fossil-free alternative to diesel.

Martin Merrick, President and CEO of Volvo Group Australia, stated, “The recognition of HVO100 in the Australian market has accelerated our adoption of this renewable fuel. While not zero-emissions, it’s a significant step towards reducing our environmental impact.”

This initiative follows the first HVO first fill program at Volvo TrucksTuve, Sweden factory in 2022, but this marks the first time a multi-branded Volvo Group manufacturing facility has adopted this fuel approach.

About HVO 100
HVO100 is a sustainable synthetic fuel made from waste vegetable oils and animal fats. It has a low carbon footprint, zero sulfur, and is compatible with Volvo Group engines without modifications. It can be used as a standalone fuel or blended with diesel without affecting service intervals or engine components.

Future Goals
Volvo Group has set science-based emissions targets, aiming for net-zero value chain emissions by 2040 and net-zero targets by 2050.

Partnership with Ampol
Volvo Group has entered into a 12-month agreement with Ampol to supply HVO100 to its fleet of trucks built at the Wacol QLD factory.
